Throughout the year, The Rendell Center hosts different special events to help you gain knowledge in specific civics topics and to engage with our expert partners and thought leaders.

Civics Education in the 21st Century: A Virtual Conversation

This event took place on February 1, 2021

Panelists and colleagues gathered virtually to discuss the state of civics education, where it’s headed, and how we can meet the needs of students for the foreseeable future, at a time when the public square is plagued with discord, dysfunction, and widespread disengagement.

Young people are a powerful solution for strengthening our republic, but are we adequately preparing them for a 21st century constitutional democracy?

Our Panelists

  • Honorable Edward G. Rendell, Former Governor of   Pennsylvania
  • Honorable Marjorie O. Rendell, Senior Judge Third Circuit Court of Appeals
  • Moderator: Dr. Ray Wrabley, Chair of the Division of Business and Enterprise and the Division of Social   Sciences, University of Pittsburgh Johnstown
